The good news: very cool, interesting and meaningful opportunity to join and build a company from scratch. And build a solution that makes a real impact on people's life. Very likely that somebody in your family will benefit from using the product and thank you.
Me: It's my second startup - first one was acquired by Trolltech/Nokia. I have a Ms in Comp Engineering from Case and an MBA from Yale. 
What do we need? Smart people that get things done. The product involves a device, mobile client, back end server and developer web APIs. So there are a few opportunities - for SW engineers (Brew, Android, back end server), for HW system engineers. You will need to be able to think and understand the whole system - not just sw, hw or server.
