L.J. Reed - CEO and Chairman of the Board
L.J. Reed has 34+ years of experience in the semiconductor industry. He retired from full time employment in the semiconductor industry in 2002 after a distinguished career serving in various technical and management positions with Motorola Inc. At the time of retirement he served as Corporate Vice President and Consultant to the Asia-Pacific Region.
His technical legacy includes the development of several "firsts" for Motorola, including the 10K, 10KH and 12K phased-lock-loop standard product families, Motorola's first product utilizing three-layer metalization and first integrated computer-aided design (CAD) system for application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) design. Throughout the semiconductor industry, he is known for developing the industry's first three-layer-metal complementary metal-oxide semiconductor (CMOS) arrays, the standard gate array families for emitter-coupled logic (ECL) and transistor transistor logic (TTL), and, in collaboration with other industry leaders, the open-architecture CAD standards for ASIC Design.
Notable positions that L.J. held during his career with Motorola include Corp VP/SPS general manager of Japan, Corp VP/general manager of the Consumer Microcontroller Division, Corp VP/SPS director of the Americas region for the Consumer Systems Group, Corp VP/general manager of the Digital Consumer Division, Corp VP/general manager of the ASIC Division, VP/senior operations manager of the Bipolar Gate Arrays Operation. operations manager of the Bipolar Memories Operation, and Senior Design Manager of the Bipolar Digital Division.
In addition to his career in semiconductors, L.J. served as a City Councilman for 2 years and as Mayor for 6 years of Gilbert, Arizona.
L.J. has a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Arizona, holds 6 patents and is the author of several technical articles published in international technical magazines.
Robert B. Davies - Chief Technology Officer
Robert Davies is a prolific inventor, and a well-recognized authority in the field of device, process and circuit design. Mr. Davies is the inventor of the High Voltage Vertical (HVV) transistor, which represents the technology foundation for HVVi. The invention of the breakthrough HVV transistor is the result of Robert's unique expertise in semiconductor device and packaging, coupled with his circuit knowledge on how transistors are utilized in power amplifier applications.
Prior to co-founding HVVi, Mr. Davies was a senior technologist at Motorola and received the highest distinctions, including Dan Noble Fellow, member of the Scientific Advisory Board and Distinguished Innovator award. One of his key accomplishments was the invention of RF LDMOS (patent #5,155,563 issued in 1992), which is the highest performance and most widely deployed technology for RF power transistors. Thanks to the invention of RF LDMOS, Motorola (now Freescale Semiconductor) continues to be #1 in this market with over 50% market share according to Gartner/Dataquest. In recognition for his work in RF LDMOS, Robert received the prestigious Motorola Patent of Distinction Award in 1997. After leaving Motorola in 1998, Mr. Davies founded Advanced Device Design where he developed a compelling semiconductor patent portfolio and provided consulting services to major semiconductor firms.
Robert has a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Arizona State University and has 80 issued patents.
Dave Lutz - VP of Engineering
Prior to joining HVVi, Dave worked at Motorola Semiconductor Products Sector in the RF Products segment. He held positions of increasing responsibility throughout his 27 years with the company starting as a RF power transistor designer and applications engineer. Dave has extensive design experience in vertical, lateral, and bipolar device structures for use in rugged RF applications from 20 MHz to 3 GHz, from small signal to greater than 400W single ended devices.
Dave was responsible for development of all production RF power transistors during Motorola's dominance of the RF power transistor market. In 1985 he became a Director in the RF Division, responsible for thin film, thick film, and wafer operations. He was key in the consolidation of the TRW RF devices acquisition, led construction of a second generation RF fab, and was the driving force in the development and manufacturing of Vertical RF TMOS and LDMOS structures, and low cost RF module substrates.
Dave has a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Arizona State University.
