Users Select Different Identity Providers When Signing In to a Website Based on Site Type Geography and Demographics and Vary Over Time
Portland OR (PRWEB) January 26 2010 -- JanRain Inc. (www.janrain.com) the leading provider of online authentication solutions through its User Management Platform today released data that reveals differences in user behavior regarding third party login based on the type of website. The data examines a sampling of media companies juxtaposed against an aggregate of companies across multiple vertical markets. Additionally the company announced new customers partners and expansion of staff. JanRain has been on a steady growth trajectory since its founding in 2005.
JanRain analyzed data from the last two quarters of 2009 and identified the following trends each month within the top four identity providers:
Â
You can read more about the data and see graphical representations of the information at http://blog.janrain.com/2010/01/social-media-industry-trends.html.
"A robust user management platform has become a key element of todays connected web. The data were sharing today clearly shows that users benefit from having a choice of identity providers. Our expectation is that we will start to see more of this behavior. A typical user or consumer may maintain three to five accounts at different identity providers or social networks and then decide which one to use based on the type of site and anticipated interaction" said Brian Kissel CEO of JanRain.
Since its launch in late 2008 JanRains RPX has seen rapid market adoption. The software as a service solution helps organizations engage more effectively with users online by allowing the user to sign in with an existing identity from Facebook Twitter Google Yahoo! or 12 other providers. Additional functionality enables users to import their profile data and address books and publish their activities (blogging comments surveys reviews downloads purchases etc.) on a clients website to multiple social networks.
In just the past year since launching RPX the company has seen significant growth and is currently running on over 170000 websites. Many large companies in the US and Europe have chosen RPX Pro the enterprise level offering. New customers just in the past quarter include National Geographic Channel Universal Music Group Tribune Interactive Real Girls Media and OPUBCO Communications Group in the US. International expansion is also continuing with recent customers including VZ Network provider of some of Germanys largest social networks Scout 24 Germanys largest web portals and a subsidiary of Deutsche Telekom and Sulake owner of the virtual world Habbo and IRC-Galleria the most active social network in Finland.
"We were looking for a quick robust and easy to maintain solution that would make it easy for our users to login to the site" said Bjoern Woltermann Head of Competence Centre Social Web Scout24. "We strive to provide the best user experience on our sites including the login and registration process to make the finding process as convenient as possible. RPX was exactly what we were looking for."
Over the past year JanRain has entered into agreements with leading internet platform providers Get Satisfaction Viewpoints UserVoice KickApps and WetPaint to embed JanRains RPX into their respective platforms for authentication and social publishing.
"We provide social and media applications on demand to help companies grow and engage their audiences" said Mike Sommers Executive VP Products KickApps Corporation. "Getting a companys targeted user logged into the organizations website and then making it easy for that user to publish information back to the social networks of their choice is clearly a key part of better engagement. RPX is an elegant solution that works well for our customers."
Last month JanRain announced the closing of a $3.25 million Series A funding round led by DFJ Frontier with participation from Anthem Venture Partners and RPM Ventures. To support continued growth JanRain has been expanding its engineering sales and marketing teams. The company recently moved its headquarters to downtown Portland OR to accommodate the continued growth.
Earlier this month JanRain was selected by AlwaysOn as an OnMedia Top 100 winner. Next month JanRain will be a key participant in the OpenID User Experience (UX) Summit in Chicago - an opportunity for industry leaders across key vertical industries to come together to share best practices on User Interface implementation.

Social Publishing Tools Provided by JanRainââ¬â¢s RPX Help Drive More Referral Traffic and Increase Registration on Client Websites
Portland Ore (PRWEB) November 13 2009 -- JanRain Inc. (www.janrain.com) the leading provider of online identity technology and services for businesses and consumers today announced that it has introduced rich new social features to its RPX solution enabling websites to increase user engagement promote content and connect to the social web. RPX social publishing (http://rpxnow.com) enables website visitors to publish user generated content or their website activities to a choice of social networks including Facebook Twitter MySpace and Yahoo!. A website simply needs to insert a few lines of JavaScript onto its site to deploy RPX social publishing resulting in a simple interface to allow users to simultaneously publish rich content from the site to multiple social networks with the click of a button. Additionally RPX social publishing supports a server to server deployment model providing complete control and flexibility to customize the user experience and platform integration.
RPX social publishing helps websites generate favorable brand awareness and proliferate content throughout the social web. As Jeremiah Owyang of Forrester Research reports in The Future Of The Social Web ââ¬Åsocial commerceââ¬Â is enabling consumers to control the messages they receive. Because trust is high among peers messages from friends will get through. Marketers should develop new forms of marketing that encourage consumers to become brand advocates with their friends.
RPX social publishing also enables websites to gain qualified referral traffic from the activities users choose to share with their friends on the social networks. Referral links from social networks drive traffic back to host websites and facilitate registration of these new site visitors. Some websites have experienced as much as a 300% increase in registrations by leveraging social publishing.
ââ¬ÅThe recent launch of the Yahoo! Updates API and its integration within the RPX platform enables websites to easily connect to the social web and distribute relevant user-generated content throughout the Yahoo! networkââ¬Â said Greg Cohn Director of Strategy and Business Development for Yahoo! ââ¬ÅWe are enthusiastic about JanRainââ¬â¢s launch of social publishing features and the ease of deployment that RPX brings to website owners.ââ¬Â
JanRain is providing its RPX solution to thousands of websites to take advantage of the benefits of third party authentication and social publishing more quickly easily and cost effectively while ensuring best practices for the user experience.
ââ¬ÅKoldCast deployed the RPX social publishing to further enable viewer discovery of our programming through social media sharing with a single clickââ¬Â said Brian J. Samuels Vice-President and CTO of KoldCast.TV a premier online entertainment destination. ââ¬ÅSince launch our viewing audience has readily adopted the simplicity of the interface and has shared excitement over RPXââ¬â¢s social publishing offering. For each comment or activity that our viewers have chosen to publish to their friends on any of the social networks we have received an average of 18 referral viewers back to our site. We intend to further expand our use of RPX in soon to be released site initiatives.ââ¬Â
ââ¬ÅWebsite owners are continually seeking ways to promote their content and increase customer engagement and RPX social publishing tools are helping websites proliferate their brands and user content virally to the social networksââ¬Â said Brian Kissel CEO of JanRain. ââ¬ÅWe have made social publishing through RPX simple to deploy so that website owners can quickly and easily start generating qualified referral traffic and drive positive business results.ââ¬Â
JanRainââ¬â¢s RPX is a secure enterprise-class software as a service (SaaS) solution being used on over 170000 websites across a range of industries and applications to increase registrations and broaden user engagement.
