Outright's team is down-to-earth, social, and fun. We have a good time together in and out of the office. We stay grounded by talking regularly to the ordinary American small businesses using Outright. This helps us build exactly what they want to use. We're also really good at what we do.
Outright's management team is composed of leaders from Intuit, HP, and successful startups. Our employees have many years' experience building web applications and come from great schools (MIT, Stanford, Wharton, Harvard, and others). We're backed by some of the most talented investors and advisers in Silicon Valley.
I have been figuring out how to bend the space-time continuum so that I can...
- run 1 existing (gear design) business for which I am managing partner,
- transition the brand and legal structure of another business that I run 100% as CEO-COO-CFO-person who answers the phones and returns the emails,
- and conduct R&D into a new business area that I had been eying for a couple of years and that I had spent a lot of $ working with a coach to create a transition strategy....
and these are supposed to be my #2+ priorities because my #1 priority and time commitment is to my family (toddler son and husband)!
So Mr. and Ms. IRS, I am doing my best to be a small time player in an economy that your leaders are touting to be fueled by small businesses - and I am trying to do this on 15-20 hours of "work hour" week and running a household (I'm also in charge of our household budget/finances/bills) and figuring out the whole motherhood-thing, for which there is no doctorate-degree for but I feel like I should have signed up for one if there is one.
Oh yea, and then I have to spend a few hours figuring out where I now am in your complicated tax bracket, given that our taxes are so complicated that the last time I could use your "EZ form" was when I was eating Snickers Bars for dinner as a starving grad student earning below the poverty level. I have to pay my tax guy hundreds and hundreds of dollars because only he could understand how our business taxes should be done.
and I would really love a $500 allowance (wait - how much would I have left over AFTER TAXES?) and with whatever is left over, incorporate this new business I have been trying to start this year - or maybe at least buy the announcement ad that I am obligated to buy!

My husband and I both have online business's, a two year old and a baby on the way.
Finding time to sleep or eat is challenging enough let alone time to organize and compile two sets of tax information.
Did I mention that my husband has receipts scattered in his studio, by his bed, stuffed underneath his car seat, in his inbox (which has become an empty box) and stored in his emails.
We hope to file '09 taxes by April 15, 2011, if we are lucky.

I can't file on time because of my crazy dream about accidentally killing Morgan Freeman in a nuclear disaster. That crazy dream ended up causing so much commotion that I got sued by Morgan Freeman and now have no money left to pay taxes.... =) Read the story of the dream here:
http://media-sprout.com/morgan-freeman-dies
(Ok, so I really did file my taxes in early March but I though a crazy story and a shot at $500 would be fun!)

Here is why I'm filing an extension because I'm busy looking at my color graph chart in OutRight. I love this new feature!
We play games every month and one of the games is to pick a color "Green" or "Red"
Yeah green ... NO! red ... Yeah! Green and GREEN WINS! ..
(Year Ends)...
WHAT DO YOU MEAN I HAVE TO PAY? ....
WHAT!!! $497.oo ? ...
just because I have a "BIG GREEN BAR"
UMMM... what would $500 do?
PAY THE TAXES ..... NOT!!!!!!
VACATION! .... I wish!

Thanks to the so-called "stimulus", I ended up only paying $44 in federal taxes the entire year. Shot 1. I also geared up my freelance work, but really didn't do so until the end of the year. So, there was that end-of-year 1099. Shot 2. To all to it all, we're still paying from last year. Now that I'm full-time freelancing, it really, really stings to write a check for taxes. Help! I need an extension!

Life is CRAZY and full of curve balls, is my excuse. Recently divorced with 3 sons, 12, 17 and 18 and one graduating this year. I have gone from a stay at home mom of 17 years to a working mom with 7 mini jobs and 2 businesses.
Preparing for graduation, helping my son with his own business, graduation preparations (of which I am co-organizer), Eagle Scout court of honor for him and 3 others on graduation weekend, my other son who was my right hand just got a job and is no longer available for the big helps he did. My youngest requires added support and interventions for his schooling. I drive 90 miles round trip, sometimes on blizzardy roads to work twice a week. Last fall I opened a dog grooming salon, so that I would be available to support my youngest in school, and to own a business that would allow me some control over my schedule, not to mention the ex had built a huge shop and it needed a business and I needed tax deductions. Mostly I just meet myself going out the door as I enter. Finally comes laundry, meals (do you know how much/often teen boys eat??), their trucks constantly needing not working and needing repairs, sports, scholarships, helping friends in their situations, being cub scout and boy scout leader and then comes TAXES???? Thats in my spare hours of midnight to 4am, and by then its ZZZZZZZ. I have to call my accountant, (I haven't talked to in over a month) and get her the paperwork and ask her to be done in 7 days? I know she has no other clients but me and has been reserving time for me to get my paperwork ( ah yes, the receipts, are in a shoe box, well actually about 4 of them, and loose in various other places, so I wouldn't lose them) to her in a timely manner. That's why I'm using Outright, so those pesky pieces of papers will be all in one spot. So far, I can't put my desktop in a "safe"place and forget where I put it, LOL. As far as the $500, well it will probably go for graduation, car repairs, college preparation., grooming equipment, shampoos, conditioners, advertising, expansion....... Time, oh yes, I've heard you can buy it on eBay......

Because the IRS is a made up part of the government that takes our money without permission we should not have to file when they want...so I like to put off my taxes with the extension to make them sweat. Either way I would love to win $500 to put towards paying the taxes that I will probably owe even though my business has just started....I feel a revolt coming on! lol Please pick me because I will re-invest it wisely and I love outright.com!

I have paid my taxes, but I am married to a soon-to-be CPA... total unfair advantage.

I heard that if you file an extension, you won't get audited. That's reason enough to wait.

We've all heard of the "dog ate my homework" excuse, but what about the very true "my cat threw up on my accounting records" excuse. I kept a mileage log the old school way - on paper. Unfortunately, my cat decided that was the perfect place to deposit her hastily eaten breakfast. I've washed and now dried the log - usable but not pretty. Maybe this was the only way she knew how to express her true feelings about taxes!

Taxes (like running a business from home while my two daughters scream and fight in the next room) are hectic. We all know that. This year I did a decent job making estimated tax payments so that I don't have to pay any additional fees. In fact, we'll even get a small bit back. I hinted this news to my part-time photographer wife thinking she'd want to put that towards the new camera she's been needing.
Instead, and to my shock, she hinted back to me a use for that money that might cause me to delay my tax filing date:
"Let's talk about having another kid."
Uh-oh.

I am a new store owner so all is this new to me. I could just use a break any way I could get one and the 500 sure could come in handy too. So happy tax time to all......

Why haven't I paid my taxes yet? As an Independent Avon Sales Representative, do you know how much goes into making 350 women happy?! During the past 10 months I have become Cleveland's fastest rising sales star. How? I've hosted "Drag Queen and Champagne" make up parties (yes, I invited drag queens to come in to teach makeup application). I've hosted parties for everyone from bowlers to nudists! Every couple of weeks it's a new party, a new theme and gallons and gallons of Skin So Soft! When I'm busy being my own marketing dept, sales team, advertising agency, customer support and trainer for a downline of 9 people, who has time for taxes?!
Next year, I'll be armed with Outright, Shoeboxed and my iPhone!

Lets see, because:
a) I'm still trying to wrap my head around what I can and cannot deduct for my (new) small business while trying to actually do all the work (software development) - doing what I can to be a part of the solution to America's economy woes, as they proclaim.
b) still trying to figure out which receipts/deductions will be allowed for my day-job income while actually remaining a valued, productive employee (software development)
c) I work in one state, live in another, and the filing makes NO sense, even with non-resident/resident tax-paying statuses
d) I also train 6 - 8 hours a week in mixed martial arts, you know, to contribute to bucking the trend of obesity/unhealthy lifestyle that our esteemed elected officials keep harping on
e) Plus my birthday is 2 days after tax day - I could use the $500 to make up for the sticker shock of paying what I owe on the 15th.

I just had a baby! Er, I mean my WIFE just had a baby!!!
Either way, two children and seven sub-contractors are a lot to take care of in this burgeoning computers experience!

My craziest reason is that I'm busy running my business. I don't know too many entrepreneurs that have time for taxes.

Started a business in early 2006, ate trough 30,000 in capital, shuttered in 2008, the books show about 20,000 in losses, of the initial capital roughly over 10,000 went into build out of the space, the rest we started borrowing to stay afloat, economy started going south so we pulled the plug. Paid off 20,000 of debt and 10,000 in sales taxes during 2009, haven't filed a Federal return yet. What's the point of an extension, just going ahead and filing April, 8th and see what happens. Can't even look at our accountant / tax preparer in the eye.

I've not paid any taxes yet thanks to a super duper accountant (who takes the time to find all the forgotten about allowances) - that's part of his job afterall, and I don't plan to in the future.
$500 would be a great pressie as its my birthday in April.

I desperately need an extension for my tax returns because I love my clients and their businesses. That's right, I LOVE MY CLIENTS.
You may ask, what in the world does this have to do with the IRS, tax-prep procrastination and $500? Well you see, I love my clients so much that I want to devote all of my time to them and making their businesses succeed... rather than do my taxes. I suppose it's a good problem to have - loving my job so much I don't want to work on administrative, tax-related, non-work-related tasks.
With organizations like the government making it more difficult and time-consuming to be a small business, I'm so thankful that there are other organizations and applications like Freshbooks, Outright and Shoeboxed that help combat those time-sinkholes. If I were to receive the $500, I would be able to use it - maybe not for this year - but for next year in helping take the information that the above apps give me and enlisting some help in translating that for the government and other organizations. Ah, if only Outright offered that service - I would gladly pay them to help me out further.

I am a mom of 3 children, whom I teach at home. I am also the most sought after massage therapist in our entire county in Pennsylvania. One of my babysitters lost 4 months worth of records that I am attempting to recreate from bank statements and my board member who advises on financial matters has been in Utah three times and Hawaii once since December. I have very little time with my husband and children and the last thing I want to do is sit down in front of the computer for hours to end up giving money to our government. $500 would help a bunch to pay someone to do it for me.

I was using Quickbooks last year, but it was such a pain that I never entered any of my info into it, so now I am trying to enter all of 2009 into Outright. It's definitely a lot easier, but geez, I don't think I'm going to finish in two weeks!
