Val Rahmani – Chief Executive Officer Val Rahmani brings over 25 years of customer-driven business and technical leadership to Damballa. Prior to Damballa, Val served as General Manager of IBM's Internet Security Systems (ISS) division after IBM's $1.3 billion acquisition of the company. At ISS, she was responsible for the strategic direction, growth and integration of all ISS products, services and research into IBM's overall security offerings. Prior to ISS, Val held several general management roles within IBM, including multi-billion dollar hardware, software and services businesses. Her IBM experience includes UNIX, mainframe, telco, utilities, global wireless and media markets in North America, Europe, the Middle East and Africa. She also ran a strategy unit, where she focused on emerging markets, global alliances and services business models. Val was born in the United Kingdom and first came to the United States as Executive Assistant to Lou Gerstner, soon after he became Chairman and CEO of IBM. Rahmani is an accomplished speaker, keynoting security industry events such the RSA conference in 2008. Val holds an MA and a Doctor of Philosophy from Oxford University in England, and is a member of the British aerobatics team.
Gunter Ollmann – Vice President of Research Gunter Ollmann has over 20 years of experience within the information technology industry and is a known veteran in the security space. Prior to joining Damballa, Gunter held several strategic positions at IBM Internet Security Systems (IBM ISS) with the most recent being the Chief Security Strategist. In this role he was responsible for predicting the evolution of future threats and helping guide IBM's overall security research and protection strategy, as well as being the key IBM spokesperson on evolving threats and mitigation techniques. He also held the role of Director of X-Force as well as the former head of X-Force security assessment services for EMEA while at ISS (which was acquired by IBM in 2006). Prior to joining ISS, Gunter was the professional services director of Next Generation Security Software (NGS), a vulnerability research and attack-based consulting firm. Gunter has been a contributor to multiple leading international IT and security focused magazines and journals, and has authored, developed and delivered a number of highly technical courses on Web application security. He is a well-known industry speaker worldwide and is often invited to present at various international security conferences. Gunter is also highly regarded in the press as an expert source on security threats and is a frequently quoted by the international media.
Tom Savini – Chief Financial Officer Tom Savini has over 25 years experience in corporate banking, finance and leadership roles in start-up company environments. Most recently Tom served as Chief Financial Officer of AirDefense, Inc., a provider of wireless security solutions. Tom assisted in a threefold growth in revenue of the company and helped orchestrate the sale of AirDefense to Motorola, Inc. in the fall of 2008. Prior to AirDefense, Tom was Vice President – Finance of Movaz Networks, Inc., a telecom equipment provider. In this role Tom oversaw all finance and administration activities and helped build Movaz from concept stage to over $60 million in annual revenue before its sale to Adva Optical Networking, Inc in 2006. Prior to Movaz, Tom spent over 17 years in corporate and institutional banking with Bank of America, Sumitomo Bank and Silicon Valley Bank. In these roles he led relationship and deal teams providing corporate and investment banking solutions to middle market and emerging technology companies. Tom holds a BBA from The University of Georgia, an MBA from Mercer University and also holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation.
Kevin O'Connor – Vice President of Sales Kevin brings to Damballa over 20 years of sales and marketing experience at leading software and technology companies. He most recently ran worldwide sales efforts at Nevis Networks, establishing the company as an emerging market leader and opening new channels. Prior to Nevis, he was Worldwide Sales Vice President at Reflex Security, whose sales growth under his direction led to a $12 million investment from a leading venture capital firm in New York. Prior to Reflex, Kevin served five years as the Area Sales Vice President for Internet Security Systems (ISS) (acquired by IBM in 2006), where he was responsible for the Eastern United States and Canada. While at ISS, Kevin's teams produced market-defining global agreements with Fortune 100 firms that established ISS as a major force in network security. Prior to joining ISS, Kevin held the position of Vice President East Area Sales at Avaya Communication (formerly Lucent Technologies). Kevin has held a variety of other sales management positions, serving as the Regional Manager for 3Com's Northeast Named Account Region and 11 years at Sprint Corporation heading up the Northeast National Accounts Division. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Administrative Science from Central Connecticut State University in New Britain, CT.
Tripp Cox – Vice President of Engineering Tripp Cox is VP of Engineering for Damballa. Prior to joining Damballa, Tripp was the Chief Technology Officer and VP of Technology at EarthLink, a national provider of Internet, wireless and voice communications services. In his 11 years at EarthLink, Tripp was responsible for all aspects of EarthLink's technology strategy, including products and services, back office, and information technology processes and governance. Immediately prior to his role as CTO, Tripp served as VP of Engineering, where he developed EarthLink's most visible products and services, including myEarthLink, TotalAccess, spamBlocker, Spyware Blocker, and ScamBlocker.
Stephen Newman – Vice President of Product Management Stephen brings over 14 years of product management experience to Damballa - designing products and product strategies for leading, innovative technology companies. Prior to joining Damballa, Stephen was Director of Product Management for Secure Computing and McAfee. Under his management, his products garnered Leader product recognitions from Forester, Gartner, Secure Computing Magazine, and Radicati. Prior to Secure Computing, Stephen developed and marketed industry leading consumer and business technology products for Boston Acoustics, MegaPath, and EarthLink. Stephen holds a Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering from Georgia Tech and a Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering from Johns Hopkins University.
Jeff McGough – Vice President of Operations Jeff directs technical operations at Damballa. His responsibilities include all customer-facing operations, including installation and performance, as well as internal IT operations. Jeff comes to Damballa with deep experience across a wide range of enterprise-level hardware platforms, and an equally broad understanding of large-scale networking, operating systems, IT communications infrastructure and Web development environments. Prior positions include Senior Director of Production Operations for Employease (a division of ADP), Director of Systems Management at Security First Technologies, and a variety of other management posts that built on his skills with UNIX systems administration. These organizations include SITA, Control Data Corporation and Informix, among others. Jeff studied Computer Programming for Business Applications at the Missouri Institute of Technology.
David Holmes – Vice President of Global Marketing David brings over 20 years of high-tech marketing leadership to Damballa. Prior to joining Damballa, David was SVP of Global Marketing for Jacada where his branding and positioning expertise helped drive the company from start-up days to over $25 million in annual revenues, and a $55 million initial public offering on Nasdaq. Under David’s leadership, Jacada successfully defined new markets, gained Leader status in multiple Gartner Magic Quadrants, drove industry recognition through numerous product awards and prominent media coverage. Prior to Jacada, David was Senior Director of Marketing for KnowledgeWare/Sterling Software, was a Senior Director at Deloitte Consulting advising Global 2000 companies on IT strategy, and began his career as an Account Executive for a Fortune 200 company. David holds a Masters Degree in Decision Sciences from Georgia State University and a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Economics from Union College.
