Movie Wedge
Manufacturer: MovieWedge.com
Price: $9.99 (Shop.ars)
Aside from their smaller screens portable media players and video-enabled smartphones tend to have one major disadvantage relative to dedicated portable DVD players: you cant easily sit them down on an airplane tray table or a lap and watch a long movie. Thats where the MovieWedge comes in.
MovieWedge is a small beanbag-like stand covered in microsuede fabric and it holds your media player upright at an angle. Because of its design its less rigid than a normal stand so it works better on unsteady surfaces. It can also accommodate a range of media players so you dont have to buy one to fit each video-enabled device that you might be carrying.
RunKeeper Pro for iPhone
Manufacturer: Runkeeper LLC
Price: $9.99 (Shop.ars)
Weve tried numerous iPhone apps dedicated to running stats and RunKeeper has again and again come out as our favorite. Theres a free version available but RunKeeper Pro definitely has all the best features. The app uses the built-in GPS capabilities of the iPhone 3G and 3GS to track your route on a map allowing you to transfer it when you sync with your computer and even share your route with others online. The app also tracks your speed (at specific instances during your run and also over your entire run) distance time and elevation.
Runkeepers website saves your running history so you can look at your progress over time and "Training" mode plays audio cues at certain points of a run to let you know how fast and how long to go. You can even create your own workouts this way so you dont have to constantly monitor the clock when you want to kick it up a notch. And if youre the type who likes the scenery you can take photos within RunKeeper Pro (geotagged and all) without quitting the app. Sure Nike+ is built into the iPhone 3GS but trust us when we say that RunKeeper is worth the money.
Jawbone PRIME
Manufacturer: AliphCom
Price: $110.00 (Shop.ars)
The original Jawbone was a masterpiece with one fatal flaw: the charging connector would eventually break rendering the headset useless. Follow-up products fixed the charging issues but now the headset was awkward to wear and didnt fit many heads.
Now with the PRIME everything is perfect. This is by far the best of the noise-canceling Bluetooth headsets available. Ive used this on the noisy streets of Chicago and New York and call partners were none the wiser. It holds a great charge is small and lightweight and comes with several options to perfect and secure the fit. Its not the cheapest headset out there but it is the best.
Arkon IPM127 bicycle mount for iPhone
Manufacturer: Arkon
Price: $19.99 (Shop.ars)
Yes we know you should never listen to music or podcasts while bicycling but thats not why were recommending this iPhone bicycle mount. With its built-in GPS functionality the iPhone 3G or 3GS is a fantastic workout companion but finding a place to put the iPhone where its both easily accessible and relatively protected is difficult. The Arkon mount solves both problems locking your iPhone securely into place while allowing you easy access.
The Arkon mount quickly attaches to your handlebars with a wingnut and the included bracket. Its easily adjustable so you can position your iPhone just right. Download one of the many GPS tracking apps (we recommend the $2.99 Motion-X GPS Sport) and youve got a GPS odometer and speedometer for every one of your bike rides.

AccuTerra GPS Maps for the iPhone
Manufacturer: AccuTerra
Price: $0.99 (Shop.ars)
The 99 cent price shouldnt fool you; using this application to its fullest will set you back more than that since it uses the iPhones ability to mange in-app purchases. Those purchases come from a large catalog of topo maps of national parks and recreation areas obtained from AccuTerras library.
Once loaded the application uses the iPhones GPS capabilities to track your progress along trails or for the more adventurous when cutting across country. You can set waypoints tag photos taken there and add notes on the phone all of which get associated with your coordinates. Once complete you can either replay your day within the application or upload it to Facebook.
There are definitely GPS units on the market that are designed for outdoor use that will probably provide better navigation capabilities. Still the added abilities are nice and the app gives everyone in your party with an iPhone the reassurance that they can find their way to the nearest trailhead if they get separated.
