Alfred Lui, M.D., F.C.A.P. Chairman of the Board and Chief Medical Officer
Alfred Lui, M.D., co-founder of Pathology, Inc., is a board certified Anatomic and Clinical Pathologist who has spent three decades serving in laboratory director and clinical roles with leading hospitals and healthcare enterprises throughout Southern California. He also serves as Medical Director for four private laboratories and as a board member of Diagnostic Laboratory Services, Inc., Honolulu, Hawaii.
Dr. Lui is active in several pathology societies including the California Society of Pathologists and the College of American Pathologists where he currently serves as a member of both the Publications Committee and the Council on Membership and Professional Development. He also previously served as a member of the Council on Education. He is the immediate Past President of the California Society of Pathologists and currently serves as a member of the Educational Committee and Board of Directors.
He received his medical degree from Loma Linda University, Loma Linda, California. He completed his residency in pathology at Harbor- UCLA Medical Center, Torrance, California. He began his career as a pathologist at the Liver Unit of the University of Southern California Medical Center and John Wesley Hospital. He is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha National Medical Honor Society.
Vicki DiFrancesco President/CEO
Vicki DiFrancesco is a senior executive with 20+ years experience in the laboratory services industry and a proven track record of building successful laboratories through organic sales, business retention, development and promotion of new test offerings and acquisitions. Among her successes, Ms. DiFrancesco has led the growth of several large national laboratories and has consistently achieved profitable growth by setting aggressive, yet realistic objectives. Under Vicki’s leadership, she has attracted some of the top talent in the industry and maintains excellent relationships throughout the industry.
Most recently, she served as Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Spectrum Laboratory Network in North Carolina, one of the largest independent regional clinical laboratories, from 2006 to 2008. Prior to that, Ms. DiFrancesco served as the Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Specialty Laboratories, which was acquired by AmeriPath, and was responsible for overseeing esoteric sales and marketing.
From 1997 to 2002, Ms. DiFrancesco was Executive Vice President of Sales at American Medical Laboratories, while it became the third largest clinical laboratory company specializing in esoteric testing services. After the successful sale of American Medical Laboratories to Quest Diagnostics in 2002 for $500M, Ms. DiFrancesco served as Vice President of Hospital Sales and Marketing at Quest Diagnostics, Inc., overseeing a specialized sales and service organization. From 1990 to 1997, Ms. DiFrancesco held responsibilities in business development and sales management at Laboratory Corporation of America, Inc. (formerly National Health Laboratories, Inc.).
Robert Albert Executive Vice President Chief Operating Officer
Mr. Albert is a senior executive bringing with him more than 20 years of experience in the clinical laboratory industry. Most recently, (2002 – 2009), Mr. Albert served as VP for LabCorp’s NW Region and prior to that, (1996 - 2002), as Senior Vice President for Dynacare Clinical Laboratories where he was responsible for multiple geographical areas including New York, Wisconsin, Texas, California and finally Seattle, Washington at which time Dynacare was acquired by LabCorp.
Throughout his career Mr. Albert has served in positions of business development, strategic planning, and mergers and acquisitions. He has demonstrated performance and expertise in the negotiation and management of hospital joint ventures, reference testing agreements, and cooperative testing arrangements. His proven track record of growth through acquisition, business retention, organic sales, and promotion of new test offerings will contribute favorably to Pathology Inc’s strategic objectives.
Mr. Albert is a member of the Board of Directors of the Association of Washington Business and is a former Board member of MS Hub devoted to the care of patients with Multiple Sclerosis.
Mr. Albert received his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and Chemistry and an MBA from Oral Roberts University.
Ron Blum, PhD Vice President Marketing/R&D
Dr. Blum brings nearly twenty years of experience in the medical and clinical laboratory industries having worked at such innovative companies as Culture Technology, Inc., Specialty Laboratories, DiagnoCure and Exiqon Diagnostics. He has been instrumental in bringing to market hundreds of new and enhanced assays in the areas of oncology, infectious disease, rheumatology, genetics, women’s health, gastroenterology, endocrinology, immunology, hematology, and nephrology.
Dr. Blum has lectured internationally on the latest developments in personalized medicine, biotechnology, and laboratory science, and has published extensively. He serves as Editorial Advisor to Clinical Lab Products magazine and is on the Board of Directors for the California Medical Technology Association Education & Research Corporation. An accomplished screenwriter, Dr. Blum has written for and worked with executives and producers from such studios as Disney and serves as a judge for the International Health & Medical Media Awards.
Dr. Blum received his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from UCLA before attending UCLA’s School of Dentistry. After completing two years with honors, Dr. Blum switched fields and obtained his Master of Science degree in Physics from California State University, Northridge, and then his Ph.D. in Biophysics from UC Berkeley.
Steve Pierce Chief Financial Officer
Steve Pierce is a senior executive with 40 years of diversified industries experience in all facets of accounting, financing and administration. Mr. Pierce has demonstrated performance in setting and implementing strategic direction; executing acquisitions, divestitures and joint ventures; improving operation and profitability; sourcing public and private capital; and representing the company to its investors.
Most recently Mr. Pierce was Executive VP at Spectrum Laboratory Network where he served from 2006 to 2007. He also served as a member on the Board of Directors until Spectrum was acquired by Welsh Carson in December 2009. Prior to Spectrum, he served as Chief Financial Officer of U.S. Pathology Labs which was acquired by LabCorp. Prior to that, he was Chief Financial Officer of American Medical Laboratories which was acquired by Quest Diagnostics. Prior to entering the laboratory industry, Mr. Pierce served in senior financial positions within Divisions of Halliburton Industries and Dresser Industries. Mr. Pierce began his career with General Electric Company.
Eric F. Glassy, M.D., F.C.A.P. Medical Director
Eric F. Glassy, M.D., is a board certified Anatomic and Clinical Pathologist. He has served as Laboratory Director for several Southern California hospitals and has served in key leadership roles for hospital staff and foundation committees. Dr. Glassy also served as an information systems and new media consultant to Cedars- Sinai Medical Center. He currently serves as a Medical Director at Pathology, Inc.
Dr. Glassy is active in several national pathology societies including the College of American Pathologists where he has served or serves in various leadership and member positions on the Hematology Resource Committee, Publications Committee, Education Committee, and Council on Membership and Professional Development. He was recently honored by CAP with the Pathologists’ Distinguished Service Award. He is also a member of the CAP Foundation.
He is a well-known lecturer and has authored several publications in his fields of interest. He has also edited and illustrated the CAP Color Atlas of Hematology, Color Atlas of Body Fluids and was the designer and illustrator of the Color Atlas of Hemoglobinopathies. He is the developer of a variety of software programs for pathology and holds a green belt in Six-Sigma.
He received his medical degree from the University of California, San Francisco, California. He served his pathology residency at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center where he also served a fellowship in hematopathology.
Dennis Sevilla, CT (ASCP), MBA, PhD Director of Operations
Dennis Sevilla is responsible for the laboratory operations of Pathology, Inc. and assisting with strategic development for the organization. He brings a broad scientific and business background. He has a Bachelor of Arts in Biology from California State University, Dominguez Hills and a degree in Cytotechnology from Los Angeles County-University of Southern California Medical Center. In addition, he has a Masters degree in Business Administration from the University of California Los Angeles Anderson School of Business and a Ph.D. in Economics from Claremont Graduate University, Claremont, California.
Dr. Sevilla came to Pathology, Inc. after serving as the Chief Operating Officer from 1986-2002 for Cytology Services Group, Inc., where he was responsible for operations management and establishing goals and objectives for the company. He also served as Lecturer of Managerial Economics from 2007-2008 at California State University of Long Beach and as Adjunct Professor of Economics from 2006-2007 at Golden West Community College, Huntington Beach, California. He is also an author and speaker on topics related to economics.
Michael D. Mosunic, M.B.A., M.A. Director of Sales
Michael Mosunic joined Pathology, Inc. in 2009. Michael’s tenure in the diagnostic laboratory industry began with Laboratory Corporation of America from 2000-2005. In his first year with the company, he excelled into the position as the highest-ranked Sales Representative in the country. He advanced rapidly and was promoted to Regional Manager of Business Development, where he and his team substantially expanded LabCorp's presence in the Western market. From 2005-2009, as Partner and COO of Slone Partners, Michael was responsible for managing sales and operations for the rapidly growing executive recruitment and leadership consulting firm.
Michael graduated with honors from LeMoyne College, holds an M.A. degree in Biobehavioral Science from Columbia University, and completed his M.B.A. at the Marshall School of Business, University of Southern California.
Kathy Jarrin-Kessinger Director Customer Support Services
Kathy Jarrin-Kessinger is the Director of Sales and Field Service for Pathology, Inc. Kathy is responsible for developing new business, along with maintaining and up-selling existing clients.
Kathy has worked in the laboratory industry for 31 years. Her medical career began in 1978 as a Phlebotomist, drawing blood at San Pedro Hospital. In 1981 Kathy joined Bio-Diagnostics Laboratories (BDL) as a Laboratory Assistant moving into managing the Patient Service Centers and the Customer Service Department for 10 years. Her expertise in customer service allowed several promotions including managing sales and field services for BDL in southern California from 1998 to 2001.
When Pathology, Inc. was formed in 2001, Kathy was appointed Director of Sales and Field Service. She has also been integral in acquiring several laboratories and successfully converting their clients to Pathology, Inc.
Kathy attended Los Angeles Harbor College, Wilmington, California.
Sherri’ Heffner, CT (ASCP) Director of Marketing
Sherri’ Heffner is a medical professional with over 30 years of experience in the laboratory industry. She has held clinical and research laboratory positions at private and academic institutions along with sales and marketing positions with leading esoteric-based technology companies.
She came to Pathology, Inc. in 2009 from Aperio, Inc. where she was the Senior Clinical Marketing Manager responsible for strategies and marketing programs for introduction of digital pathology systems into the clinical market. Prior to Aperio, she held the position of Director of Marketing from 2006-2007 at AviaraDx where she was responsible for establishing the marketing department for the molecular diagnostics laboratory. From 2004-2006, she served as Marketing Manager for Clarient, Inc. where she created and managed marketing programs for Clarient’s oncology laboratory services. From 1997-2004, she worked at Prometheus Laboratories, Inc. where she served in Product Manager positions (2000-2004) responsible for marketing programs for new and proprietary technologies related to gastroenterology; and from 1997-2000 as Supervisor of Client Services. Prior to her marketing positions, she served in sales positions from 1986-1997 with Dianon Systems, UroCor and Neuromedical Systems.
She completed her internship training and licensure for Cytotechnology at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, Houston,Texas. She also attended the UCLA Anderson School of Medical Marketing, Los Angeles, California.
Rollie Rebuelta, MT (ASCP), MBA Director of Finance
Rollie Rebuelta has been in the medical laboratory industry for most of his professional career. Rollie is a licensed Clinical Laboratory Scientist in the state of California and is certified as a Medical Technologist by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists. He has a Masters degree in Medical Technology from California State University, Dominguez Hills and a Masters degree in Business Administration from the University of Southern California.
His previous experiences include several management positions in academic hospital laboratories. He came to Bio-Diagnostics Laboratories, the predecessor of Pathology, Inc. as Chief Financial Officer in 1989. He left Bio-Diagnostics in 1993 to work for a start-up company developing “for profit” hospital laboratories. He was responsible for operations, sales, marketing, and finance. In 1997, Rollie returned to Bio-Diagnostics as President of the Hospital Laboratory Division. In 2000, when the clinical pathology division of Bio-Diagnostics Laboratories was sold, the remaining anatomical division of the company was spun off as Pathology, Inc. for which he assumed operational responsibilities as Chief Operating Officer (including finance). In 2004, he became the full time Chief Financial Officer of Pathology, Inc.
Laura Scotvold Director of Human Resources
Laura Scotvold has been the Human Resources manager for Pathology, Inc. and its predecessor company, Bio-Diagnostics Laboratories, since 1997. She is responsible for all personnel policies and activities related to personnel recruitment and employment. In addition, along with the Safety Manager, she develops and implements safety programs and training.
Prior to her role as Director of Human Resources at Pathology, Inc., she worked at Precision Payroll as an Assistant Director from 1993-1995 and as a Branch Manager from 1989 – 1993. Her responsibilities included Human Resources activities; and she oversaw all payroll preparation and tax preparation.
Laura attended Hunter College of The City University of New York, New York. She earned her Human Resources Certificate at George Washington University, Washington, D.C.
