John R. (Grizz) Deal CEO
John R Grizz Deal is CEO of Hyperion Power Generation. Grizz has over twenty years of experience in technology commercialization and fast growing ventures, in both product development and chief executive roles. Grizz was previously the managing director at Purple Mountain Ventures (PMV), serving a dozen international firms on product development, capital expansion, and marketing. Grizz also serves as a director of the U.S. National Lab Seed Fund, a venture capital fund focused on innovations developed by the U.S. Department of Energy laboratory complex. Grizz is the former TVC entrepreneur in residence with the U.S. Department of Energy/NNSA, visiting entrepreneur at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL), chief marketing officer for Space Imaging, the founder and former CEO of LizardTech, and a consulting scientist at LANL. Grizz is a frequent speaker and writer on energy technology and policy, starting and growing advanced technology-based ventures, and issues in raising capital for such ventures. He is a member of the board of directors for the International Clean Energy Alliance, and serves on the boards of several PMV portfolio firms. Grizz has raised over $200 million in risk capital for his ventures and holds graduate and undergraduate degrees in geography from Texas A&M University.

Mark S. Campagna has over 25 years experience in the nuclear power field. His assignments have been diverse and technologically challenging and have involved extensive business management and leadership roles. With a core specialty in the area of field Project Management and leadership of complex multidisciplinary teams, Mr. Campagna has performed on varied assignments ranging from a US Naval Officer on large nuclear powered warships through project engineering/management assignments implementing multi-million dollar projects at operating commercial nuclear power stations involving nuclear facility design, decommissioning and dismantlement (D&D), waste management, site remediation and nuclear fuel transport within the international arena.
Deborah A. Blackwell, APR VP Licensing and Public Policy
Deborah is a business development, public relations and marketing specialist. After leaving her initial career in television, she honed her 25+ years of experience by working in a wide array of industries. These include, but are not limited to computer software, real estate development, consumer and business travel, politics, and non-profits organizations. Her clients have been spread across the nation, the Caribbean and even into Russia. Most recently, as the CEO of a nonprofit that spans five states, she resurrected that organization from the brink of collapse and turned it into a thriving entity. Over the years, she also founded and operated two additional companies and helped many more to thrive. She has served on the boards (frequently as president) of countless nonprofit civic, cultural and industry-specific organizations and lobbied the U.S. Congress and state legislatures on their behalf. Her degrees in journalism-public relations and radio-TV were earned at the University of Central Florida.
Dr. L. Robert (Bob) Libutti VP Strategy
Bob has a BS in Engineering Physics from Lehigh University and a MBA and PhD in Business Administration and is a Computer Science graduate of IBM’s Systems Research Institute. He is the author of the book “IBM’s Systems Application Architecture.” After working in industry as an electrical engineer and as an officer in the US Army, Bob began a 32-year career with the IBM Corporation. He held various positions ranging from being the IBM Applied Science representative to NASA Langley during the Project Mercury space shots to IBM Group Director, holding executive marketing and executive product development positions in the US, Europe, and Japan.
Otis (Pete)Peterson PhD Inventor & Chief Technical Officer
Among his many career accomplishments, Dr. Peterson holds six patents including those for his inventions of the cw Dye Laser and Alexandrite Laser, which earned IR 100 awards. In the 1990’s he served as science attaché at the American Embassy in London for environmental preservation and nonproliferation issues. He has served as a group leader at Los Alamos and he has held management positions at Eastman Kodak and Allied Chemical where he cofounded the laser induced chemistry program. He is also the co-founder of laser isotope separation program (AVLIS) at Lawrence Livermore Laboratory, which continued for 26 years. He earned his PhD in physics at the University of Illinois.
Dr. Turner J. (T. J.) Trapp VP Engineering
TJ has over 35 years of experience in nuclear engineering, nuclear systems, nuclear operations, nuclear fuels fabrication, and nuclear safety. His experience includes the operations and design of nuclear reactors; the safety and operations of nuclear materials, accelerator, and other hazardous facilities; and the design and development of programs to meet the Nation’s energy and national security needs. TJ has held several management positions including Principal Deputy Associate Director for Weapons Physics and Deputy Division Leader, Nuclear Materials Technology Division at the Los Alamos National Laboratory. He once served as the Science Advisor to the Assistant Secretary for Defense Programs, at the Department of Energy Headquarters, in Washington D.C. Trapp has a PhD in Nuclear Engineering from Oregon State University.
James Jones VP Business Development
With 25 years of technology sales and in excess of $450 million in sales credits, Mr. Jones brings a wealth of experience to Hyperion. He has served in key sales roles at Digital Equipment, SUN, and Interleaf as well as executive positions at Sybase and Informix. For the past 10 years, Jones has focused on startup companies as Chief Revenue Officer. He has been responsible for helping deliver first revenues as well as building the sales and business development teams that secure consistent company growth. In recent years he has worked with mobile telecoms operators around the globe. At SNAPin Software, he built the sales teams in North America and Europe. He successfully secured customers such as British Telecom, Orange UK, Vodafone, Armenia Spain, KPN, T-Mobile UK, T-Mobile US, and Cingular. Mr. Jones’ experience includes startups in enterprise software, energy conservation, telecoms, document management, and geospatial imaging. He holds undergraduate and graduate degrees in Bioscience.
Forrest Rudin Chief of Staff
Forrest has a twenty-year history in the energy and construction industries—from product inception, to development, to sales and marketing. He joined Hyperion in the summer of 2008 as project manager for plant-side design, and assists prospective Hyperion customers in evaluating the economic benefits and physical requirements for exploiting Hyperion reactors. Forrest is also responsible for corporate adherence to export and international I.P. property regulations as well as assisting the CEO in the day-to-day management of the firm. Mr. Rudin regularly writes and speaks on energy and environmental issues.
Cody Pearson Product Manager
Cody joined Hyperion as the product manager in 2007 and was previously an executive in the publishing industry. After graduating from the University of Nebraska with a BS and a BA in marketing in 2001, Cody moved to Denver to work as communications director for the Internet Chamber of Commerce, a non-profit business assistance organization. Cody’s work at the University of Nebraska focused on e-commerce and international business. While at university, Cody also helped develop digital rights management policy and the campus-wide awareness program for the faculty and students.
Paul Brienza Business Operations Manager
Paul joined Hyperion in the spring of 2007. He has worked in several leading industries for the past 10 years including: Construction Development, Telecommunications, and Technology. His background specializes in Business Operations, Management and Communication. His experience stems from leading a team of technical personnel at a Fortune 500 company to managing the day-to-day operations of a multi-million dollar construction design and build firm. Through his experiences, he mastered the organizational skills needed for successful business operations, learned the effectiveness of business communication and also worked with investors for several years and appreciates the fruitfulness of hard work.

Erica joined Hyperion in the spring of 2008. With over 10 years of business management and sales and marketing experience, she adds a myriad of creativity and inspiration to the company. Prior to working for Hyperion, she has held positions including Sales & Marketing Executive to Office Manager. Through her work experiences Erica understands the fundamentals of promoting a successful company. Erica holds a BS in Business Administration & Marketing from the University of Colorado.
