Douglas R. Henston — Chief Executive Officer Doug Henston founded Solix in 2006 with Dr. Bryan Willson. Prior to becoming CEO at Solix, Mr. Henston was a strategic consultant in carbon mitigation strategies and renewable energies with Domani Sustainability Consulting. Mr. Henston is highly regarded in the renewable energy field and has an intimate understanding of the industry, markets and technologies. Prior to joining Domani, Mr. Henston was President of Community Operations for American Residential Communities in Denver. Before moving to Colorado Mr. Henston was a Vice President in the Fixed Income group at Goldman Sachs and was a Naval Aviator from 1984 to 1992. He serves on the Board of the Colorado Cleantech Industry Association. He holds a B.S. in Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry from Yale University and an MBA from the Harvard Business School.
Dr. Bryan Willson — Chief Technology Strategist Prior to founding Solix, Dr. Willson was involved in the commercialization of several projects focused on emission reductions and adoption of alternative fuels; he is a co-founder of Envirofit International which is focused on the dissemination of clean retrofit engine technology. His research emphasis includes internal combustion engines, alternative fuels and vehicles, biomass and biological fuels. Dr. Willson is a professor of mechanical engineering at Colorado State University and Founder and Director of its Engines and Energy Conversion Laboratory. He is a scientific representative of a joint EPA/industry group charged with determining new regulations for emissions from industrial engines and other combustion sources, and is the holder of numerous patents. Dr. Willson holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Texas A & M University and an M.S. and Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin.
David P. Maytubby — Chief Financial Officer Most recently, Mr. Maytubby served as the Chief Financial Officer for The Broe Group. The Broe Group is an international investment, acquisition, and operational enterprise headquartered in Denver, Colorado. Prior to his experience with The Broe Group, David was Chief Financial Officer of BrightLink Networks, Inc.; a venture capital funded optical switching company. Mr. Maytubby has over 23 years of experience in both private and public financial roles of increasing responsibility where he participated in over $1 billion of merger/acquisition transactions. During the course of his career, Mr. Maytubby has successfully raised over $150 million of venture debt and equity. Mr. Maytubby began his career in 1985 in public accounting with KPMG Peat Marwick and earned his CPA certification in 1987. Mr. Maytubby holds a B.A. in Accounting from Fresno Pacific University.
Richard Schoonover — Chief Operating Officer Prior to his work with Solix, Mr. Schoonover was Chief Operating Officer for Enginuity, LLC, an industry leading company focused on the development, deployment and maintenance of technologies that enable the natural gas transmission industry to meet increasingly stringent and costly exhaust emissions regulations without sacrificing efficiency and reliability. Mr. Schoonover is an expert in directing programs for the applied development, demonstration and evaluation of key technologies with the focus on solving real world problems within industrial infrastructure. He has an extensive background in the design, construction, integration, and daily operation of industrial technologies within existing plant infrastructure. Mr. Schoonover has a B.S and M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Colorado State University.
Joel Butler — Chief Technology Officer
Joel Butler has over twenty years of management experience in both early stage and Fortune 500 firms. He has worked in the management consulting, high tech, software and defense industries. Prior to joining Solix, Mr. Butler was a founding member of Accenture’s supply chain strategy practice where he led transformation projects at large firms such as Verizon, Nokia and Best Buy. He also led projects to assist in the launch of new technology businesses at firms including Bright House Networks and TerreStar. Prior to Accenture, Mr. Butler was Co-Founder and CTO of SwiftRivers; an analytical software optimization firm. Mr. Butler has also worked at Quantum Corporation, where his roles included Director of Technology Licensing and Director of Software Applications. He has a B.S. in Naval Architecture & Marine Engineering from Webb Institute of Naval Architecture, an M.S. in Transportation Science and an M.S. in Management Science both from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
Bryan McCarty — VP of EngineeringBryan McCarty directs the process and systems design and development work to produce biodiesel, oil and other biomass products from algal feedstocks. He has expertise in mechanical, electrical, software and systems design and development in both high and low volume manufacturing environments as well as plant engineering. He has specific expertise in fuel, ignition, air and engine emissions systems. He also brings experience in IP and patent management. Previously Mr. McCarty served in various engineering leadership roles at Combustion Engineering, Dana Corporation, Rostra Precision Controls, Woodward Governor, Enginuity, LLC. and R.E. Phelon Company. He has directed the launch of over 50 major products and systems during his career. Additionally, he has facilitated the engineering support efforts for two QS9000 and several ERP implementations. He was awarded a patent in 1998 for a low-cost seat belt retractor actuator. Mr. McCarty earned his BSME from the University of Toledo in 1980 and his Colorado P.E. in 2005.
Dr. Joanna Money — VP of Business Development
Dr. Money has over 15 years experience in corporate and business development, strategy development as well as marketing and sales. She has experience in facilitating the growth of early-stage companies and driving them towards equity events. Dr. Money has spent the last 10 years working with several biotechnology companies including, RxKinetix, Proligo, Array BioPharma and NeXstar Pharmaceuticals. Prior to that she worked at Amoco Chemical, developing business opportunities for them on a global basis. Dr. Money has a Ph.D in Inorganic Chemistry from Indiana University and a B.Sc. in Chemistry from Imperial College, London, UK.
Dr. Peter Lammers — VP of Biotechnology
Prior to joining Solix, Dr. Lammers was the cultivation track lead for the Department of Energy’s Algal Biofuels Roadmap. He is considered a foremost authority on large-scale cultivation. Dr. Lammers taught courses in chemistry, biochemistry, bioinformatics and molecular genetics for at New Mexico State University for 24 years prior to joining the Solix team. At Solix, he will oversee efforts in algal growth and biochemical optimizations. Dr. Lammers earned his Ph.D in Environmental Biochemistry from Portland State University and was a postdoctoral associate at the University of Chicago.
Susan Strating — Human Resources Director
Susan Strating has over 20 years of human resource experience primarily in the high tech sector. She has served in human resources manager and director roles at Agilent Technologies, Kodak and Waterpik. Prior to joining Solix, Ms. Strating served as the Human Resources Manager at Abound Solar where she was instrumental in growing the workforce from 35 to 175 employees. Ms. Strating has specific expertise in recruiting, training, employee development and leadership/executive development, including having introduced and facilitated Succession Planning in Hewlett-Packard’s computer business. Ms. Strating has a B.S. in Psychology and an M.Ed both from Colorado State University.
