Sales Operations Specialist

We are looking for an experienced Sales Operations Specialist to join our growing team. You will work directly with the VP, Sales and Marketing and a small sales team to “on board” new Symform Reseller Partners. This includes providing pre-sales support, managing the Partner registration process, and shepherding each Partner through the software trial period. Chief Software Engineer/VP, Engineering

We are looking for an experienced Chief Software Engineer/VP, Engineering to join our growing team. Praerit Garg, President & Co-founder
Praerit Garg is the President and Co-founder of Symform. Prior to Symform, Praerit was a Senior Director in Microsoft's Server and Tools division where he built and managed the Dynamic Systems Platform & Tools team. Under his leadership, the team grew from 0 to over 70 people and drove a broad industry initiative to expand W3C's XML standards to incorporate modeling enhancements called Service Modeling Language (SML). The team also delivered technology and solutions across several Microsoft products, including the distributed modeling system in Visual Studio 2007, Group Policy tools in Windows Vista/Server 2008, Server Manager in Windows Server 2008, and Desired Configuration Management in System Center Configuration Manager 2007. Praerit also led an acquisition and integration of a software company developing Group Policy tools. Earlier in his 12+ year tenure at Microsoft, he held various engineering leadership positions in the Windows group. These ranged from a software developer driving the U.S. and European security certifications of Windows NT 3.51/4.0 products to Group Program Manager for Windows Security delivering security infrastructure such as Active Directory, Kerberos, PKI, EFS, and Group Policy in the Windows 2000, XP, and 2003 releases. Praerit is a co-inventor on 14 U.S. and international patents and a co-author of IETF RFC 3645, Web Services WS-Trust and WS-Secure Conversation specifications. He holds an M.S. in Computer Science from Purdue University and a B.E. (with Honors) from Birla Institute of Technology & Science, Pilani, India.
Bassam Tabbara, Chief Technology Officer & Co-founder
Bassam Tabbara is the CTO and Co-founder of Symform. Bassam developed his first computer game at the age of 11 and sold his first software application (a utility that removed the first generation of computer viruses) at the age of 16. An avid technologist, he has worked on many diverse projects relating to web platforms, databases, semantic web, operating systems, distributed systems and systems management. Bassam has always gravitated toward startup opportunities where he could develop new technology and transition it to a successful product. Prior to Symform, Bassam was a Senior Engineer at Microsoft. Upon joining Microsoft Research in 1995, he co-invented a web platform for Microsoft's early foray into the Internet. He successfully transitioned the technology into Sidewalk.com where he developed and shipped multiple versions of the popular local search and advertising web service which eventually was sold to CitySearch.com. The underlying web platform continues to be used today by MSN, MSNBC, and Microsoft.com. Applying lessons leardned from building and running large-scale services, Bassam returned to Microsoft Research where he co-founded a small team that was passionate about reducing the complexity and cost of operating large-scale IT systems. After a successful prototype and senior executive endorsement, the project was transitioned into the Windows division where it became the Dynamic Systems Initiative (DSI). DSI eventually spanned three flagship products: Windows, Visual Studio, and System Center. Bassam served as a lead architect where he was responsible for implementing the model-based technology (SML) at the core of DSI. While consulting with Microsoft executives on strategy and garnering industry support, Bassam became the original author of the SML specification that, along with 11 major industry players, was submitted to the W3C for standardization. Bassam is a co-inventor on 22 U.S. and international patents. He received his B.S in Computer Engineering from the University of Florida.
Kevin Brown, Vice President, Sales and Marketing
Kevin Brown is Symform's Vice President of Sales and Marketing. A 25 year veteran of the software industry, he has held executive leadership positions in several prominent companies and has extensive experience starting new companies. The hallmark of Kevin's career has been his ability to identify "disruptive technologies" that truly transform businesses and markets. Prior to Symform, Kevin was a member of the founding executive team at Tableau Software, the world's leader in visual analytics software. Over his tenure, Kevin served as VP, Marketing, VP, Sales, and VP, Channels. Tableau delights thousands of customers worldwide and has completely transformed the business intelligence industry. Prior to Tableau, Kevin was Vice President and Managing Director, International and a member of the founding executive team at Visio Corporation (NASDAQ: VSIO) which was taken public in 1995 and eventually sold to Microsoft for $1.6B. Starting from scratch as the first international employee, Kevin grew the company's international revenues from $0 to $80M and established its presence in over 30 markets across Europe, Asia, and Latin America. Prior to Visio, he spent a decade as the CEO/Founder of Brown & Associates, a Networking and IT Services Provider based in Boston, MA. Brown & Associates was one of the first New England VARs established by Novell, Microsoft', and 3Com. In addition to his industry experience, Kevin was a Professor of Computer Science at Boston College and has lectured frequently on information visualization at universities and at corporations around the country. Also, he has authored four books on Lotus Notes. Kevin earned a BA from the University of Michigan, a DHS from the Universidad de Salamanca, and an MBA from Boston College.
Mark Ashida, Director
Mark Ashida joined OVP Venture Partners in 2007 and focuses on investments in infrastructure, SaaS, Networking and enterprise software. Prior to joining OVP, Mark served as General Manager of Windows Enterprise Networking at Microsoft Corporation where he was responsible for the networking infrastructure and authentication servers, representing over $450M in enterprise sales. Prior to Microsoft, Mark was Chief Operating Officer at InterTrust, a public company (ITRU). InterTrust provided secure, trusted computing for secure distribution of music, video and other digital goods and was the leading company in digital rights management. The underlying technology was seminal as confirmed by Microsoft paying the company over $400M in a license settlement. InterTrust was sold to Sony and Philips for $450M in 2002. Before joining InterTrust, Mark was also a General Manager at Intel Architecture Labs involved in the spinout of PassEdge, a green business in security, networking and digital rights management. Mark was CEO of an early venture-backed WAN networking equipment company sold to 3Com, and involved as a turnaround of one of the earliest web measurement companies. He also was a partner at Braxton Associates, acquired by Deloitte & Touche, and leader of its West Coast Strategy Practice. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for Avenda, DepotPoint, Serus and Symform, and is a Board Observer to Lucid Commerce, CGI, Carbonflow and Collaborative Software Initiative. Mark received his undergraduate degree from Pomona College and his MBA from Harvard Business School. Mark grew up as the son of a US diplomat and spent most of his pre-college life in Africa, the Middle East and Asia. He is the father of two teenagers and has yet to find a high tech gadget he did not enjoy
Lucinda Stewart, Director
Lucinda Stewart joined OVP Venture Partners in 2001 and focuses on investments in the infrastructure software, wireless and digital media sectors. Her investments include AdmitOne Security, Applied Identity, Lucid Commerce, Talyst and Vantos. She currently serves on the Board of Directors of AdmitOne Security, Applied Identity, Lucid Commerce, Max-Viz, Symform, Talyst, Tigo Energy and Vantos. Prior to joining OVP, Lucinda was part of the start-up team of a Welch, Carson, Anderson & Stowe-backed services company, National Surgery Centers (NSC), where she worked in market and business development analyzing markets for new center development, acquiring existing operations and working with individual centers to improve operational performance. During her tenure at NSC, the company became the largest independent owner and operator of surgery centers, went public and subsequently sold to HealthSouth for $590 million. After NSC, Lucinda joined the investment banking division at Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette in New York where she worked closely with software and services companies. In 1999 she entered the venture business at Frazier Healthcare and focused on services and software investments. Lucinda received her BA in Political Science from the University of Puget Sound and her MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University. She is a board member of the Northwest Entrepreneur Network (NWEN) and the Evergreen Venture Capital Association and was recently named one of Seattle's 2007 "40 Under 40" by the Puget Sound Business Journal. She is married and has two sons. She enjoys skiing, hiking, soccer and running and biking, if her partner Chad has anything to do with it.
