Twilio provides a telephony infrastructure web service “in the cloud” enabling web programmers to integrate real-time inbound and outbound phone calls into their applications. With a simple powerful API Twilio flattens the learning curve to build and deploy scalable reliable voice communications apps such as click-to-call pay-per-call Interactive Voice Response PBX systems and more. Twilio’s unique pay-as-you-go pricing model allows customers to pay for capacity when they need it allowing their apps to scale from 10 to 10000 simultaneous calls automatically.
Twilio has implementing a reliable auto-scaling software-based telephony application stack on top of commodity cloud computing resources such as Amazon’s EC2. Core Engineers at Twilio solve problems in software switching high availability distributed datastores real-time DSP (audio processing) virtualization performance distributed messaging and distributed computing.
Joining the worlds of telecommunications and cloud computing isn’t easy and Twilio is looking for creative motivated people who enjoy tackling tough software problems and in the process disrupting a century-old industry. Sound like fun?
Within the first 6 months of work Senior Software Engineer may be expected to design prototype implement and deploy one or more major mission-critical services underlying Twilio’s API. The process will include developing an early understanding of the product hosting design review sessions documenting design and code details and participating in periodic peer code-reviews. The resulting service would require integration with other existing Twilio systems as well as with Twilio’s performance and availability monitoring suite.

Web Technologies Engineers at Twilio work on building and enhancing the Twilio frontend and applications. This includes designing and enhancing the experience of developers getting started with Twilio’s account management systems and API and developing how-tos demos and interactive technologies to assist new and existing developers.

Building such reference applications will require an understanding of the project’s goals developing the requirements writing and testing front and backend web code and periodic peer code-reviews. A Web Development Engineer will work closely with our UI/UX designers reference customers and other company engineers during the course of projects so strong communication skills are critical.
